From Diagnosis to Multidisciplinary Treatment in Padua
The Clinica Linfologica Italiana, based in Padua, has been a national hub for lymphoedema treatment since 1987. This facility, highly specialized in treating oncology patients or those with other lymphovascular conditions, is now at the forefront of lipoedema treatment, too -a chronic genetic condition recognized by the WHO only in 2018 and by the Italian Health Ministry since 2022. For both lymphoedema and lipoedema, our Clinica stands out for its multidisciplinary approach, which aims to reverse or slow the progression of these conditions.
Our multidisciplinary approach, based on comprehensive and holistic patient care provided by a specialized team, supports individuals not only during intensive treatments but also throughout follow-up check-ups and regular condition management. As chronic conditions, in fact, lymphoedema and lipoedema treatment require continuous care over time with personalized treatment protocols.
LYMPHOEDEMA AND LIPOEDEMA: FROM LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE TO ADVANCED THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUES
The Clinica Linfologica Italiana welcomes patients from across the whole country for intensive treatment programmes, providing assistance with hotel accommodations at partnered facilities.
The clinic was originally known as Centro Medico di Linfodrenaggio Manuale (Manual Lymphatic Drainage Medical Centre). Until a few years ago, the only treatment for lymphoedema (and later for lipoedema) was manual lymphatic drainage, following the Vodder method, along with multi- component drainage bandaging. This was our starting point 35 years ago, but today, research has demonstrated that a multidisciplinary approach is the only effective treatment for lymphoedema and lipoedema.
Our treatment programmes now combine manual therapies (such as Vodder lymphatic drainage, lymphological bandaging, or Gua Sha techniques) with mechanical therapies (such as shockwave therapy, vacuum therapy, or LPG), alongside physical exercise in the gym, outdoors, and in the swimming pool, as well as nutritional and psychological support.
From the initial lymphology consultation to our treatment programmes, we use the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies available.
THE UNIQUENESS OF THE CLINICA LINFOLOGICA ITALIANA IN PADUA
Most other physiotherapy centres treat lymphoedema and lipoedema with monotherapy, meaning they only perform lymphatic drainage and bandaging (and less frequently add mechanical therapy like shockwave). This is an outdated clinical approach, as shown by the latest scientific evidence.
The Clinica Linfologica Italiana, instead, specializes in the diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of lymphoedema, lipoedema, and other lymphovascular conditions.
